Major League Draft Services

Player Profile App

Market Need

Major League Draft Services (MLDS) provides information and counseling to help high school and college baseball players navigate the MLB Draft. MLDS developed an actuarial model that predicts career earnings for players using a complex system of equations embedded in a large Microsoft Excel workbook. MLDS approached Brooklyn Softworks to develop an online application that would be easier to use than the Excel workbook.

What Brooklyn Softworks Did

  • Implemented the actuarial model as a web service, ensuring that MLDS’s proprietary source data remained on a secure server.
  • Built a front end application that was simple to use so players could experiment with various inputs and outcomes themselves.
  • Integrated the application with MLDS’s existing subscriber login system.

Outcome

With the new Player Profile web app integrated into the MLDS website players can access a user-friendly self-serve tool, phone support time is decreased significantly from what was required for the Excel solution, and MLDS proprietary data and models are kept secure.

The Kid’s Doctor

iPhone App

Market Need

Dr. Sue Hubbard is a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist and radio personality with a website for parents with health-related videos and articles. The goal for the iPhone app was to offer busy parents another resource to access Kid’s Doctor content on the go.

What Brooklyn Softworks Did

  • Teamed with Three Stream to design the User Interface for an app that lets parents read “Daily Dose” and “Hot Topic” articles as well as submit questions to Dr. Sue.
  • Developed the iPhone app and submitted it to Apple’s iTunes App Store.
  • Developed plugin software for the existing Kid’s Doctor website to route content to the iPhone app. By automatically reusing website content, the iPhone app does not impose any additional editorial workload.

Outcome

The app has been downloaded by thousands of users and has received only 5-star reviews in the iTunes store.
